Six decisions, in order

A trip is six decisions. Settle them in this order.

The free decision card works through a trip in this order. Each decision has sourced guides to settle it, with the date each guide was last checked. The plate on the left follows you. New to planning Italy? How to plan a trip to Italy, step by step walks through all six.

Italy, drawn in one line A line map of Italy's twenty regions. As each of the six decisions comes into view, the places named in its guides appear: airports and ports, the Rome, Florence and Venice spine, illustrative rail and ferry links, ticketed cities and a north-to-south budget corridor. Lines are schematic, not transport routes or directions. FiumicinoMarco PoloNaplesRomeFlorenceVeniceLake ComoCastelmezzanoBolognaCapriMilan

Scroll the six decisions. The plate follows.

Where you arrive and leave from: the airports and the port named in the guides.

A city sequence and two alternative bases, to compare with the linked guides.

The rail spine, two airport links and the Naples to Capri ferry: each one a separate check.

Rome and Florence: use the linked checks before committing to a ticket or driving plan.

An illustrative north-to-south corridor: check tolls, tourist tax and tipping separately in the linked guides.

Your parcel: one open question, one official source, one next action.

Regional boundaries adapted from Istat, 1 January 2026, CC BY 4.0, simplified. Schematic markers and lines, not transport directions or a recommended itinerary.
  1. Decision 01 of 06

    The outline

Approximate dates and how flexible they are, how many travelers, the total nights in Italy, and where you arrive and leave from.

  2. Decision 02 of 06

    The route

Which places, how many nights in each, and the main reason for stopping there. A reason that survives the timetable is worth more than one more town.

  3. Decision 03 of 06

    Each transfer

The exact station, airport or harbor, the operator, the timetable date, luggage and the last leg to the accommodation, and a fallback you could actually use.

  4. Decision 04 of 06

    Before paying

What the ticket or service actually includes, who sells it and who operates it, whether dates, names and entrances are right, and the current change and cancellation terms.

  5. Decision 05 of 06

    The budget

Currency, whether flights are included, accommodation, intercity and local transport, visits, food, and the costs still unknown.

  6. Decision 06 of 06

    The next decision

The one question holding up the plan, who or which official source can answer it, and your next action. If it is a question for the travel desk, the outline above is how to ask it.

    The travel desk reads it.

After you send your email, we review your note and explain whether we can help and what a next step would involve.

  3. 03
    Nothing is agreed by accident.

Any scope, fees and arrangements must be agreed before you commit. Prefer to write your own message? Email the Travel desk directly.
