Your Italian yacht escape planned around your whole trip
Choose the coast and the people before the yacht. Then compare the whole arrangement: charter fee, operating expenses, taxes, arrival and the time you actually want on the water. A beautiful boat is only one part of a remarkable week.

Choose the week you want to live
Picture one ordinary morning, not the most spectacular photograph. Would you like breakfast at anchor, a swim before lunch and dinner ashore, or long passages between places you have always wanted to see? Name the two moments that would make the trip worthwhile. That gives a planner something more useful than a yacht length or a collection of saved images.
This guide is about a crewed charter for your party, with nights aboard. It is not bareboat rental, a day excursion or an individual cabin on a shared cruise. Fraser describes its charter model around a dedicated crew and personalized service. For a real shortlist, ask who is aboard, how meals work and which facilities the particular vessel actually has.
A hotel with a private boat day may suit you better if sleeping ashore is essential. A charter may be the better starting point when living on the water is the point of the vacation. Neither is a more luxurious answer by definition. Compare the holiday you want, not just the most impressive vessel in a brochure.
Ten primary pages reopened October 24, 2026 inform the distinctions here, including an explicitly older brochure and a dated builder announcement. Our questions and worked budget are editorial tools, not quotations. The three large yachts below illustrate different configurations at the very high end; they are not a ranking, our fleet or evidence that their calendars fit your trip. The opening photograph shows Positano, not a charter yacht or a view promised aboard one.

Pick one Italian cruising area first
Start with three separate possibilities: the Amalfi Coast and Capri, northeastern Sardinia around La Maddalena, or Sicily's Aeolian Islands, including Lipari. Fraser's Italy page distinguishes Sardinia, Sicily and the Amalfi Coast; Burgess separately describes the Aeolians. Our planning recommendation is to choose one first, rather than assume every Italian coast belongs in the same week. Choose the embarkation area before attaching the yacht to international flights.
For an Amalfi-focused brief, explain how much time you want around places such as Positano and how much you want away from shore appointments. For Sardinia, explain whether swimming and time around the islands matter more than evenings in port. For the Aeolians, say which island experiences actually justify moving the yacht. These are questions to shape a proposal, not ready-to-sail itineraries.
Ask for the embarkation and disembarkation ports before buying flights. Compare a loop with finishing somewhere else, including the arrival hotel, transfers and any cost of positioning the vessel. There is no fixed passage time in this guide: the chosen boat, actual route and conditions determine the useful answer. The small map is geographic orientation, not a navigation plan.
These differences change the brief: island swimming with the applicable park permissions in Sardinia; a balance of time aboard and appointments ashore around Amalfi/Capri; or named island priorities rather than all of Sicily in the Aeolians. None is a promise of an empty bay or permission to land everywhere. Regional planning also needs the actual vessel's draft, tender arrangements and safe alternatives; this national comparison is not a captain-approved itinerary.
On the trip-planning page, the choice of places is decision 2 of 6, the route: which places, how many nights in each, and the reason for each stop.

Build the budget in separate layers
A weekly headline is not necessarily the trip total. Burgess explains that many MYBA-based quotes include the yacht and crew, while additional expenses remain separate; tax and positioning charges may also apply. Ask for one written proposal that distinguishes the charter fee, applicable taxes, operating-expense allowance, delivery or redelivery, and land arrangements.
Polaris's public guide illustrates the expense categories behind that allowance: guest provisions, fuel, berths and other operating items. Its older numerical examples are not a current Italy quotation. The useful comparison is between proposals with the same assumptions: time underway, nights in port, dining aboard, shore plans and arrival arrangements. Do not compare one boat's bare headline with another's fuller estimate.
Our suggestion is a simple cost sheet: what is fixed, what is estimated, what is refundable and what has not been included. Ask what happens if the route changes, who can authorize extra spending and when payments fall due. Keep discretionary gratuity, insurance questions and your flights visible rather than silently assuming they are included. No rate or tax treatment here is a personal quote.
Separate money advanced from money ultimately spent. A security deposit and an expense allowance may both need funding without being identical costs. Ask whether an item is settled through the allowance or invoiced separately, and who receives the money. Taxes depend on the actual arrangement: we do not apply a blanket Italian percentage, reuse an old brochure's tax example or turn a weekly rate into a final bill.

Read APA as an expense account, not a guarantee
APA means Advance Provisioning Allowance. It funds operating expenses rather than making the charter automatically all-inclusive. Polaris describes end-of-charter accounting and return of an unused balance; Burgess also describes spending updates and possible top-ups. Confirm the precise allowance, reconciliation process and treatment of any balance in the actual agreement.
Do not count the same cost twice: an expense paid from the allowance is not automatically another charge on top of it. Equally, an allowance is not proof that actual spending cannot exceed that amount. Ask the broker to walk through the estimate using your proposed rhythm, meals and port choices, rather than accepting a generic percentage as a spending cap.
Choose a comfortable total before becoming attached to a specific yacht. If you have a firm ceiling, say so and ask how the proposal will be managed within it. A clear conversation about spending protects the relaxed atmosphere you are trying to buy; it need not turn each day into an accounting exercise.
Here is a hypothetical calculation, not a vessel quote: a EUR 200,000 charter fee, EUR 80,000 expense advance and EUR 15,000 positioning charge require EUR 295,000 before any tax, land arrangements or gratuity. If actual allowance-funded expenses total EUR 65,000 and EUR 15,000 is returned, that part settles to EUR 280,000. Do not add the EUR 65,000 again. The 40% advance is our illustration, not a rule: Burgess gives 30–40% in one answer and 20–40% in another.

What the very expensive yachts actually illustrate
The figures in the table are the individual Burgess specification tables' summer low/high weekly rates, reopened October 24, 2026. Italy and Sardinia appear among their summer cruising areas. No particular summer year, sailing date, delivery position or complete tax-and-expense proposal has been established for your party. The page's default winter headline is a different seasonal field; it should not silently replace the summer comparison.
The important difference is not just length or price. RENAISSANCE lists 36 guests in 19 cabins, whereas SOPHIA and KENSHO each list 12 guests despite seven and eight cabins respectively. Their listed crews are 45, 32 and 22. Those are different hosting configurations, not permission to fill every bed with extra passengers. A larger crew count does not measure service quality by itself, and extra cabin flexibility does not raise a stated guest limit.
Before becoming attached to a name, compare the cabin allocation, quiet and shared spaces, boarding and tender access, equipment actually confirmed and the full cost on matching dates. We have not inspected these yachts or requested availability. For SOPHIA the opened specification shows EUR 1.9 million; a search preview showed EUR 1.8 million, so we have not used the preview as a current quote. These examples demonstrate why a named-vessel proposal matters, not which yacht is best for you.

Match the cabins and crew to your people
Start with sleeping arrangements: couples, friends sharing, children needing nearby adults, and anyone who would rather avoid steps or a difficult tender transfer. Ask for the actual cabin plan, bed configurations and boarding arrangements. A total guest number does not tell you whether everyone will be comfortable in the rooms available.
Burgess distinguishes guest capacity and crew, and warns that yacht capabilities differ. Confirm the approved overnight and cruising capacities for the named vessel rather than relying on a generic industry limit. If a feature matters, ask about it specifically: shade, quiet spaces, tender access, stabilization, meals or reliable connectivity. A photograph does not answer those questions.
Give the group a shared priority before requesting a shortlist. For example, decide whether togetherness over long lunches matters more than moving to a new place daily. Keep initial inquiries free of passport copies, children's names, payment information and medical details. Necessary sensitive arrangements belong later, through an identified provider's appropriate process.
For a party larger than twelve, investigate the named vessel rather than multiplying the ordinary cabin count. Freire's July 26, 2023 delivery announcement identifies RENAISSANCE with 36 guests in 19 cabins and PYC Part B up to 36 passengers. That is dated builder evidence, supported by the broker's current guest listing, not our inspection of certificates or approval of a voyage. Require the responsible provider to confirm the actual overnight, cruising and in-port event limits and applicable permissions.

Keep the captain's route and access checks real
A private yacht does not make a bay private. La Maddalena National Park publishes access-permit requirements and separate procedures for commercial operators. Ask the responsible broker and captain to check the vessel's applicable permissions and current zoning, not simply whether a park ticket appears on a list of extras. An authorization is not a reserved anchorage or permission to do anything anywhere.
Burgess describes itineraries as weather-dependent and points out differences in cruising capability and crew arrangements. Treat the proposed route as something to develop with the captain, not a guarantee that every saved stop will happen. Tell the planner which part matters most, and ask for an alternative that preserves it if conditions change.
Separate that operational flexibility from the written terms for cancellation, delay, substitution and unused services. Do not assume a captain's route adjustment creates an automatic refund, or that a private charter bypasses public attraction rules. The right discussion happens before a commitment, with the actual provider and agreement identified.
Name any essential activity early, but do not turn a toy inventory into an entitlement to use it everywhere. The same principle applies to a marina berth, a restaurant landing and access ashore: the captain's route, local rules and the service booked must agree. Keep a version of the day that does not depend on one bay or one reservation, and leave navigation and operational safety to the responsible professionals.

Connect the nights aboard with the days ashore
Decide where the charter belongs in the wider holiday before fixing its start and finish. A recovery night before embarkation, a hotel afterward or a single boat day during a land-based stay are different shapes. Write the whole arrival: flight or station, meeting point, luggage, vehicle, dock, tender if needed and boarding. A photograph of a helipad does not establish an aircraft transfer, landing clearance or a permitted luggage allowance.
The same applies at the end. Agree when everyone must leave the vessel, where bags go and how the onward connection works if the preferred port or water leg changes. A one-way route can create positioning costs and a different departure plan; it should buy an experience you want, not just avoid a line on a map. The captain and broker need to assess the actual vessel and ports before the route is treated as workable.
Keep shore appointments proportionate to why you chose a yacht. If every day depends on a restaurant, chauffeur and timed visit, compare a hotel-based trip with private outings before committing to nights at sea. Our Capri guide separates a day excursion from a transfer or charter, while the family and honeymoon guides explain different rhythms. No flight, vehicle, berth, table or cabin is reserved by these comparisons.

Agree the contract and change plan before paying
The proposal should identify the vessel, charter provider, dates, ports, guest limits, inclusions and complete payment schedule. Distinguish the charter fee from the expense account, any refundable security deposit and services arranged ashore. Ask which person or company handles each payment, where the final accounting comes from and which written conditions govern it. We are not presenting a fleet or claiming brokerage affiliation; an editorial inquiry is not a charter confirmation.
Resolve cancellation, delay, substitution and route-change questions with the actual agreement, rather than borrowing a day-boat refund promise or assuming every MYBA-based arrangement has the same outcome. If the yacht changes, which cabin and service requirements must still be met? If a flight is delayed, what can move? If a preferred attraction closes, what happens to separately booked meals or transfers? These dependencies need answers before deposits make the plan expensive to alter.
For a celebration, separately establish who may board in port, who may remain for a passage and who may sleep aboard. An event headcount is not an overnight passenger limit, and a residence-style dining photograph is not event permission. Put the actual occasion and guest plan into the proposal without sending sensitive records in the first email. The purpose is a coherent holiday and clear responsibility, not a promise that a large budget removes restrictions.

Send a short brief, not a finished itinerary
Email us your approximate dates, number of nights, travelers and the coast you are considering. Add one nonnegotiable: a particular cabin arrangement, mostly swimming, evenings ashore or a slow pace. An approximate total budget is helpful but optional. If you have not chosen the area, describe the kind of week you want instead.
We can help shape the trip inquiry and connect the time aboard with stays and transfers ashore. Any yacht, specialist provider, scope, costs and terms must be identified and confirmed before you commit; we do not present a fleet, broker affiliation or live availability here. If a separate provider is needed, we agree an introduction before sharing your inquiry. Request a call only if you want one.
A hypothetical, non-identifying brief might say: a family wants nights aboard in one Italian area, enough separate cabins, mostly swimming and long meals, with an easy arrival and one evening ashore. If you have a spending ceiling, say whether it is the charter fee or the complete trip including expenses and land arrangements. You can leave budget blank and ask us to help frame the options. This is an illustration, not a previous customer or available charter.
Use the email button for a short draft; the separate callback option adds a phone number, country code and time-zone prompt only when you want a call. Your inquiry is not a newsletter subscription and nothing is sent automatically. A named yacht can be an example of a preference, but dates, people, sleeping needs and one priority are enough to begin without a fully worked route.
Related questions
What is included in a private yacht charter in Italy?
It depends on the vessel and agreement. Separate the yacht and crew from operating expenses, taxes, positioning and land arrangements in the actual written proposal.
Is APA an extra fee or an all-inclusive package?
It is an advance for operating expenses. Confirm accounting, any top-up and the treatment of unused funds; do not assume it is a fixed spending cap or count the same expense twice.
Should we combine Sardinia, Amalfi and the Aeolian Islands?
Choose one area first, then ask whether adding another improves your actual trip after passages, ports, arrival and costs are considered. This guide does not prescribe a sailing route.
Does a private yacht guarantee every anchorage or attraction?
No. Weather, the captain's operational decisions, vessel permissions and local access rules still apply. A private vessel does not create exclusive use of public places.
Can a large yacht take more than twelve guests?
Some have a different passenger configuration. RENAISSANCE is listed for 36 guests and its builder's dated announcement states PYC Part B up to 36 passengers. That does not authorize every voyage or event: confirm current certification, overnight/cruising limits and the actual proposal with the responsible provider.
Are the RENAISSANCE, SOPHIA and KENSHO figures complete Italy prices?
No. They are published summer low/high weekly rates from individual broker tables reopened October 24, 2026, not availability, year-specific offers or our quotations. Taxes, expenses, positioning and land arrangements must be established separately.
Can we start with a call about the whole trip?
Yes. Use the separate call-request email if you want one, adding your number, country code, time zone and a useful time. Nothing is sent or booked automatically.
Choose the life you want aboard, then the coast, the boat and the complete arrangement. The most useful luxury is a week that works for the people taking it.
