During a famine that had lasted more than two years, Triora arrested twenty people in a witchcraft prosecution. The case records still survive.

Why it is worth the drive
During a famine that had lasted for more than two years, Triora opened a witchcraft prosecution in the late summer of 1587. The municipal history records twenty arrests; thirteen women, four girls and a boy were declared guilty in the first phase. Letters, interrogation and torture records, and death sentences from the proceedings survive.
Triora's round bread is still identified by the municipality as the town's principal product. Near the entrance to the old village, the historic oven is preserved as part of that local food history.
Getting there
Nice (NCE) is the nearest international airport, about two hours by car; Genoa about two and a half. The last thirty-five kilometres are a narrow provincial road up the Argentina valley.
The honest part
Four hundred and nineteen people live here, so accommodation and winter services are limited. Confirm museum hours and transport before travelling; a car gives the most reliable access.
