Roscigno
Special landslide laws forced the transfer from Roscigno Vecchia. Its former rectory now holds about 800 objects from the abandoned settlement.

Why it is worth the drive
Special laws for landslide-prone settlements forced residents to leave Roscigno Vecchia between 1902 and 1908 for a new centre a few kilometres uphill. The old square, church, stone houses, workshops, granaries and stables remain as a record of the former community.
The former rectory now holds the Museum of Rural Civilisation. The municipality lists about 800 objects recovered from houses, cellars and stables and arranged around the working cycles of wine, oil, bread and wool.
Getting there
Naples (NAP) is about 150 kilometres by road. There is no practical rail arrival at Roscigno Vecchia, so the final journey is by road.
The honest part
Roscigno Vecchia is an abandoned settlement with an active local museum and Pro Loco, not an untouched ghost town. Entry is currently free and accessible parking is listed, but opening is limited to weekend hours.
